PREPARATION

PRETREAT STAINS
Apply detergent or stain remover to a stain as soon as possible to prevent the stain from setting. Scrub detergent in to a stubborn stain with a soft tooth brush.
TURN INSIDE OUT
Always soak and wash your gi inside out. This will ensure that the outside of the gi gets less abrasion and will maintain color and integrity for much longer.
PRE SOAK
Put cold water with white vinegar in to a bucket, tub or sink to help loosen debris for a max time of 24 hours. Research pre soak detergents available on the market as alternative to vinegar.
HAND WASH
Hand washing and machine washing each have their pros and cons, but hand washing your gi is superior. Hand washing is gentler on your gi and allows for targeted cleaning, preserving its quality. In contrast, machine washing applies uniform and potentially harsh scrubbing, which can accelerate the aging of your gi.
WHITE GI
Keeping gi inside out, use detergent safe for white fabrics. Scrub the entire gi in to itself by hand, with cold water. Scrub harder on tougher areas. Rinse thoroughly, and squeeze out excess water without ringing. Use bleach only if nothing else works on a tough stain. Do not use on entire gi.
COLORED GI
Keep the gi inside out. Use detergent safe for colors that does not have bleach. Scrub the entire gi in to itself by hand, with cold water to prevent color running. Scrub harder on tougher areas. Rinse thoroughly, and gently squeeze out excess water without ringing.
AVOID
Do not wash gi right side out. Do not use bleach, chlorine, or detergents with harsh chemicals as they all break down fibers of the fabric. Do not ring the gi after washing as it causes stretching. Try not to use hot water as it ages the fabric and makes the weave tighten up causing shrinkage.
MACHINE WASH
Washing your gi by hand is the ideal method however if you need to machine wash follow directions below. Machine washing offers convenience and efficiency, making it quick and easy, It provides a thorough and uniform cleaning of your gi, ensuring consistent results with minimal effort.

HANGING
Whenever feasible, opt for air drying your gi in a well-ventilated environment with low humidity. Sunlight serves as a natural disinfectant, assisting in the elimination of bacteria and prevention of odors. However direct sunlight exposure will lead to fading of colored gis. Therefore, it's advisable to dry the gi inside out.
DRYER
If hang dry is not an option ands using a dryer is necessary, opt for the lowest heat setting available. The delicate option is preferable. Avoid tumble drying, as it is the primary cause of shrinkage. Hot temperatures of a dryer causes wet fabric weave to tighten quickly and unevenly causing heavy shrinkage and warping.
STORAGE
The best way to store your gi is to hang it on a blazer hanger in a well-ventilated and low-moisture environment. If folding is necessary, ensure the pants are inside the folded gi to prevent the lapel from creasing too tightly. Light ironing is an option, but it's not required if regularly used.
